Running with Exile

Coming up on the fourth day here in Mumbai and it’s been great so far.  The production team rocks and the art department is exceeding all our expectations.  The director, Jim Sonzero and I met Aishwarya Rai yesterday.  She is stunning and very nice.  This is shaping up to be a successful shoot but we have a long way to go…

Jet lag has been the biggest obstacle so far.  I am literally on the other side of the world plus a 1/2 hour.  So 5am in LA is 5:30p the next day in Mumbai.  I guess it is part of the reason they make sleeping pills.  I used to take those but for me the come down is worse than the jet lag.  I’m a wimp when it comes to dope, so instead I’ve been running at very odd hours.  3am for a 5 miler on the treadmill, then a shower and a nap.   Funny thing is, I’m not alone at those hours.  Lots of guys and one woman seem to be in the same boat I am.  We don’t talk to one another just sort of shrug and instinctively know what’s really going on.

The Rolling Stones re-release of Exile On Mainstreet (Deluxe Version) was released on Tuesday.  I’d forgotten that I’d preordered it a couple of months ago and it just showed up in my iTunes.  Like so many before me, I love the album’s melodic tones and bluesy soul.  Yesterday (my Mumbai Wednesday) as I joined the running zombies in the exercise room Mick and the boys crooned in my ears with their song,

Torn and Frayed:

Yeah, and he thought he was wreckless.
You think he’s bad, he thinks you’re mad,
Yeah, and the guitar player gets restless.

And his coat is torn and frayed,
It’s seen much better days.
Just as long as the guitar plays
Let it steal your heart away.

It was probably the hour but somehow it was an appropriate sentiment for the weary travelers in the throws of sleepless nights.  The whole album is full of good beats and made for a good run.

After a brief nap the view from my room inspired a deep breath and a resolve for another day in “paradise.”

Mumbai - A room with a view.
