Fine Art Portrait Photography Los Angeles

My mission is to create portraits that resonate not only with you, your friends and family, but are also collection worthy pieces of fine art photography.

In the past, talented portrait painters used their brushes to meticulously reproduce an image of a person sitting in front of them. Many of these works hang in museums around the world.

When photography came along those hours of sitting for a portrait turned into seconds. A person’s likeness captured with the release of the camera’s shutter. Slowly, the traditional portrait became pictures of people on street corners, on family vacations and anyplace else humans found themselves. The freedom from the paintbrush provided spontaneity and the portrait became an afterthought or the tripe of white t-shirt laden families in awkward poses.

Fast-forward to the advent of the camera phone and apps like Instagram have turned these communication devices into hand mirrors where the selfie has become the defacto portrait of our age. These ubiquitous images speak to our need for instant gratification and sometimes are fun but I believe we can do better.

I have set a standard in my portrait work that harkens back to the advent of photography. An approach that resonates with the aesthetics of the masters from the past with a modern twist, your portrait is not stilted or highly posed but rather captures you in a moment of relaxed thought, contemplation or elation.

I work with you to find a location and a concept that best suits your needs. That can be on location, in and around your home/office or at my studio.

My goal is to always make you feel comfortable in front of the lens. This allows you to relax and be yourself and that translates to a great portrait. It is my job to make sure you look amazing so if you're apprehensive about posing, don't worry! Each of the portraits on this site are either posed or reflect a moment captured during the session. You will look just as amazing.

I do my best to make this a fun experience. We plan your session very well so all of your concerns are addressed before we meet. This way you can enjoy the experience. My subjects tell me repeatedly that they felt as though they'd invited a friend over with a camera. Wherever you decide to have your portrait session, I'll make sure the session is as enjoyable as possible.

I look forward to our session together.
