My mission is to create portraits that resonate not only with you, your friends and family, but are also collection worthy pieces of fine art photography.
In the past, talented portrait painters used their brushes to meticulously reproduce an image of a person sitting in front of them. Many of these works hang in museums around the world.
When photography came along those hours of sitting for a portrait turned into seconds. A person’s likeness captured with the release of the camera’s shutter. Slowly, the traditional portrait became pictures of people on street corners, on family vacations and anyplace else humans found themselves. The freedom from the paintbrush provided spontaneity and the portrait became an afterthought or the tripe of white t-shirt laden families in awkward poses.
Fast-forward to the advent of the camera phone and apps like Instagram have turned these communication devices into hand mirrors where the selfie has become the defacto portrait of our age. These ubiquitous images speak to our need for instant gratification and sometimes are fun but I believe we can do better.
I have set a standard in my portrait work that harkens back to the advent of photography. An approach that resonates with the aesthetics of the masters from the past with a modern twist, your portrait is not stilted or highly posed but rather captures you in a moment of relaxed thought, contemplation or elation.
I work with you to find a location and a concept that best suits your needs. That can be on location, in and around your home/office or at my studio.
My goal is to always make you feel comfortable in front of the lens. This allows you to relax and be yourself and that translates to a great portrait. It is my job to make sure you look amazing so if you’re apprehensive about posing, don’t worry! Each of the portraits on this site are either posed or reflect a moment captured during the session. You will look just as amazing.
I do my best to make this a fun experience. We plan your session very well so all of your concerns are addressed before we meet. This way you can enjoy the experience. My subjects tell me repeatedly that they felt as though they’d invited a friend over with a camera. Wherever you decide to have your portrait session, I’ll make sure the session is as enjoyable as possible.
I look forward to our session together.
NOTE: I also provide photographic
services for international and US clients. If you are interested, please
contact me direct for a full quote of production and usage fees.
Please note that the session fee includes our time photographing and my time processing images. All prints, books and master files are purchased in addition to the session fee.
We used to call them headshots, you’ll use them for all sorts of self promotion, so why not call them what they are? A self promotion session is sixty to ninety minutes in my studio against a white or gray or black background.
Assignments are quoted on a project to project basis. Prices vary in location and end usage.

Tom is amazing! I needed professional photos for my digital press kit (I’m a musician). I’m not particularly experienced at “modeling,” so I was pretty nervous–however, Tom made it not only easy but also a lot of fun. The final product is incredible! I ended up using the photos for my website and social media sites as well as for my press kit. Tom was also very fast at getting pics back to me. I’ve had to wait weeks with other photographers, so having the final product in a few days was great. I highly recommend Tom!
Getting my head shots done with Tom was an awesome experience! He was so professional and made me feel so comfortable. He’s very talented and I will definitely will be going back to him.
Tom Lowe is not only incredible at what he does, but he’s also one of the nicest people ever! He definitely knows how to accommodate the actor and bring their headshot session to life. He’s very clear and kind with his direction, which makes it easy for any actor to relax and trust that they’ll get great photos. I was very specific going into the shoot, and he captured exactly what I needed; and we had a blast! All I’ve got to say is, everyone should work with Tom. I can’t wait to book with my new shots!”
This was my first time taking headshots, and I couldn’t have asked for a better photographer. I was nervous about being in front of the camera, but with Tom Lowe’s guidance, I immediately felt comfortable. In no time at all, I had a beautifully lit assortment of headshots that allowed my personality to come through, thanks to his direction. I was very pleased with the results of my shoot and would definitely recommend Tom Lowe Photo to anyone seeking professional headshots and photos.
I was never a big fan of headshots; they seem kind of annoying and arbitrary and sometimes make you feel very much like a slab of meat. Through my session with Tom, however, not only did I leave with an incredible selection of photos, but also a drastically different perception of what a headshot really can be. Tom focuses in on what kind of essence you want to pop from your shot, and he gives excellent direction to get you there.
It’s obvious that he has had a great deal of experience casting–his insight and perspective on their own felt worth the price of admission, and the photos I ended up with were splendid! Simple, flattering, and just what a headshot should be. These are real headshots coming from a real professional (no garden-dwelling, nature-oriented nonsense that distracts from your face). On top of everything, I never felt that Tom was “directing” the shoot; he always made sure that I felt comfortable and in control of what we were producing.
In my opinion, a no-brainer. You need headshots, go to Tom Lowe Photo.
