20 Miles is a long way…

Well I did it!  20 miles in less than 3:30.  If I’m able to keep this pace during the marathon then I can make my other goal of running it in under 4:30.  It’s a long way though.  I only walked about a 1/2 mile at mile 18 – thus the slower than 10min pace.  My friend told me it is really hard to start up again after so many miles.  I agree!  Someone once said, “The best part of the Marathon is when I stopped running.”  I hope I have a better experience than that but I understand the sentiment.

I was much happier with this performance than the last 20 mile attempt.  I was mentally prepared and my body was rested so I think that had a lot to do with it.  The water lasted, the pretzels (salt) really helped and the Garmin watch played coach as the miles ticked by.  Anyway, here are the results.  Picture 1

I have entered the City to the Sea 1/2 Marathon – San Luis Obispo to Pismo Beach – Oct. 11.  After dropping my daughter off at College (Santa Cruz) I drove the course.  It’s beautiful, hilly and will be a good challenge.  Good times!!
